Denon Heos groups - issue

Joost vB 12 months ago in Devices / Other updated by István Gehl 5 days ago 20

Since the latest updates on bOS and Denon HEOS there seems to be an issue with forming/keeping groups of speakers.

The Denon node did work as expected, but since the update it tries to control the group. But by doing so it disassembles the existing group, or (if the group’s not there yet) will fail to combine the speakers into a group.

Anyone experiencing the same behavior?

By the way:

Denon is having another problem, it’s losing its favorites all the time. I’ve contacted Denon support for that.

Hello,

thank you for reporting this. We'll take a look at the changes that were made and try to see what's going on.

Best regards.

Thank you for digging into this, we’re keen on getting it to work again since we have quite a few wall switches working with HEOS-groups. 😅

Hello,

we did find some issues with the latest WebOS and our integration and we've already made some improvements. They should be available with the new update.

Best regards.

Hi,

Just being curious:

when is the update likely to be released?

Trying to keep my "CEO" informed. ; )

Hello,

currently improvements are in the beta release, so if you want you can try and install the beta version. This is available if you go to Updates in the config, change from Release to beta (top left) and install the beta.

You should have a new "enable security" option under LG, so enable that and check if it works.

Best regards.

Hi, thank you for your response and hint to the beta release.

I've just installed that and unfortunately I see no change in behaviour in regarding the HEOS speakers.

Next to not being able to form groups correctly it is frantically connecting and disconnecting to all the speakers.

This results in notifications which clutter my bOS app which makes me hardly being hardly able to access the actual controls wihin the app.

For the time being I've deleted the Denon node until there's a solution.

Is there an update for the Denon Node (Denon.bos) itself which I can import and might resolve the issues?

Hello,

unfortunately the changes to the driver didn't make it to this release, so if it causes issues for you, you can try and revert back to stable release (open update and press Reinstall at the bottom) and wait for the new release.

Best regards.

Hi,
Thank you for the support on this!
Just wondering, is there a way for me to get a choice to which version I want to revert back to?

Hello,

unfortunately not all versions are backward-compatible so for now only reverting to last stable version is possible.

Best regards.

That sounds promising, thank you for the follow up!

Hi,

Sooo, a little update:

I've installed the newest stable version 4.10.9

This helps... a bit.

In the previous version of bOS the speakers tended to disconnect and reconnect all the time. This now shows more stable connections. So the frantic notifications have been lowered to a copable level.

Still the groups won't form when a bOS-command is given to a group, so only the coordinator-speaker will carry out the command, the other speakers will stay out of the group.

Hopefully you're able to find a solution for this, thank you!

Yes, I also wanted group control and it doesn't work. It is not possible to connect the devices in such a way that the same source sounds on all amplifiers.

Hello Istvan,

we are aware of the grouping issue and we've already resolved it, you can expect a fix in the next update.

Best regards.

Thanks for the answer, I'm glad to have a solution.

Hi @ComfortClick Support

Any progress on getting the Heos (Denon) node to a stable state?

After a few months without having the node installed I've had another try installing it.

Still I'm seeing the issues with the node:

1. failing to form and control a group

2. instable connections with the speakers resulting in an instable bOS and many messages of speakers losing and regaining connection.

These problems have been there for over 8 months now, when will the stable version of the node be released?

I'm veeery much looking forward to using the full functionality of the node again!

Hello Joost,

the grouping fix should be available in the next stable version due to 3 weeks. During this time you can try installing Beta version where this issue was already fixed. You can test the grouping function and please let us know if you will find out any errors.

Best regards

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I've been testing BETA for a while now.

First signs are that it runs stable:

it's forming/keeping groups with no issues and speakers are hardly disconnecting/reconnecting.

When there are changes in this behavour, I'll keep you posted.

Hi,

LeaveGroup() works for me. It removes the group.

GetGroups() doesn't work for me. It doesn't create a group.

What is the solution?

Best regards

Thanks István

It seems the updates have fixed my main issues.

bOS is forming groups and maintaining connections like a boss now!

It's been a long time coming, but glad it's been fixed.

Fingers crossed it stays this way!

Maybe I should just use it differently?

Could you describe how you create groups?
