IP camera online vs connected?

alexandros toufexis 1 year ago in Devices / Cameras updated 1 year ago 6

Hello,

What is the difference between the IPcameras' values "Connected" and "Online"?

If the camera is connected and streaming both values are "True". However, when I unplug the camera, the values do not change to "False". They status changes to "False" only when I disable the camera from the bOS configurator.

Is there a way to know the actual status of the camera?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Alexandros,

Connected value is used to display if bOS is connected to the camera. Online value can't be used in bOS, it will be hidden in the future as it's not indended to be used, so you can just ignore it :)

BEst regards,

Thank you for getting back to me.

If the connected value is used to display if bOS is connected to the camera, why does it remain "True" when I unplug the IP camera? It still doesn't change its value even after a couple of minutes of the camera being offline.

Best regards.

Hello Alexandros,

thank you for reporting this. We'll check it and fix the connected status. Why do you need this info?

Best regards.

Hello,

Since this information is there, I want to use it :)

The client wants to use only one app. So, I want to sent them a notification via bOS in case a camera goes offline. Perhaps the camera is defective, or its cabling. Perhaps someone damaged it on purpose.

I also tend to use it as a label on the floor plan and via control pop up the camera's stream.

Best regards.

Hello,

Until this gets fixed, you can create a device "Computer" under the Devices list, add the IP / Mac address of the camera, and use it to check the online status, and use it to trigger your notifications.

It's basically a ping service, to check if the device is reachable.

Best regards

Dear Ricardo,

Thank you for your recommendation. I'll give it a try.

Best regards
